Pathfinder - Developing new strategic targets for the sustainable societies programme of Friends of the Earth (current) Starting from the need that the
sustainability debate lacks momentum and strategy, the European network
of Friends of the Earth has started a process that will revive the concept
of a sustainable Europe and bring it back onto the agenda of the groups
of Friends of the Earth. Sustainable Finance (planned) Sustainability is a key factor
in global financial markets: It is relevant for investors as it affects
to corporate financial performance. Labour and Environment - Austria (in german only) (completed) Beyond-Growth - Nachhaltige Entwicklung versus Wirtschaftswachstum? (completed) In co-operation with the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung
SERI was working at a publication of the contributions to the conference. Eco-efficient regions (completed) The "5th Environmental Conference
of Regional Ministers and Political Leaders in the EU" will take
place in Villach (Carinthia / Austria) from 27th to 28th September 2001. Environmental Integration (completed) In a comprehensive study SERI analyses
the strategies and reports which were prepared by the EU-Councils of
ministers for energy, transport and the internal market. The study contains
sectorial as well as general policy advice. European Regional Policy (planned) The promotion of European regions and of the Accession Countries has impacts on the social, economical and environmental development. Appropriate indicators for the evaluation of regional policy therefore have to cover all these aspects Greenig the G8 (current) SERI helped the organizers of the
recent G8 summit in Genoa to encourage the dialogue on global issues
between the G-8 and non governmental actors. Sustainable consumption in a globalising world (planned) An assessment of the effects of
globalisation on the determinants of consumption and on policy strategies
to pursue sustainability. Sustainable Consumption Network (planned) Sustainable consumption is quickly
becoming one of the major topics of interest for academics and practitioners
engaged in environmental, social, and economic discourse. One of the
primary reasons for this interest is that unsustainable consumption
patterns and levels especially in the industrialized countries are a
major cause if not the major cause of environmental degradation in the
world today. Globalisation, dematerialisation, international trade and environment (planned) Establishment of a bi-regional
network of research, training and policy-advice on globalisation, trade
and the environment between the European Union (EU) and Central America
and the Caribbean (CAC). International trade and material flows - the case of the Chilean export economy (current) This project analyses the metabolic
changes and developments of the Chilean socio-economic system driven
by export orientation and active integration in the world markets within

Factor 4 + in cooperation with SERI introduces you into the world of
environmental protection and dematerialisation. Main concept of the
dematerialisation is to create products and services with a reduced
use of natural resources. This saves the environment, helps to reduce
costs and leads to innovations and new market opportunities. "Öko Plexx" Vienna (planned) Project for a shopping center for sustainable
products in vienna. MIPS Software (planned) Together with the Society Factor 4+ (Klagenfurt) and ENEA (Rome) we are planning to develop a joint software to estimate mips for products and projects. Sustainable OECD (current) In
1999, the OECD Council of Ministers asked the Paris headquarters to
hammer out corner stones of a sustainability strategy for the OECD and
its member countries, including policy mesures and monitoring mechanisms.
A number of hearings followed, providing high quality input, and a conference
in Rome in December 1999. Employment and Environment - The Transfer Process (planned) Sustainable development means exploring
ways to reconcile job creation, economic competitiveness and environmental
protection. Environmental Mediation in Europe (completed) Mediation is frequently overrated
and misinterpreted. The Use of mediation and mediation-like processes
initiate a debate within society and may increase the acceptance of
